Notification

In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (3) of Section 12 of the Indian Medical Council Act 1956 (10 of 1956), the Central Government, after consultation with the Medical Council of India, hereby makes the following further amendments in second schedule to the said Act, namely:

In the said schedule after the entry Nigeria following entry shall be added, namely: Nepal Tribhuvam MBBS Bachelor of Medicine Tribhuvan University and Bachelor of Surgery University.

Note: This qualification shall be recognized Medical qualification when granted on or after 27th April 1985 in respect of students trained at Medical College, Kathmandu who have joined the MBBS course after passing the 10+2 examination witth science subjects.

"The delegation recommends that MBBS degree awarded by the Tribhuvan University through training at the Institute of Medicine, Kathmandu be accorded recognition by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council for the purpose of postgraduate medical training of the Nepalese graduates in Pakistan".

 

The above recommendations of the delegation has been approved unanimously by the council.

Dear Dr. Thapa
Thank you for your recent enquiry.
I confirm that the qualification of MBBS awarded by the Tribhuvan University Nepal, is accepted by the GMC limited registration.

Limited registration enables an overseas-qualified doctor to undertake supervised employment in hospital posts affording educationally approved training. Such posts are normally at the grade of SHO and Specialist Registrar Limited registration can be granted for periods amounting to a maximum aggregate period of five years.

In order to be eligible to apply for limited registration a doctor should have completed, overseas, at least twelve months clinical experience in teaching hospital or other hospital approved for internship training and, thereafter, have passed, or gained exemption from the test of professional knowledge and competence in English known as a the PLAB test.

Categories of exemption from the test are set out in the
enclosed not and any enquiries relating to this, or the PLAB test can be obtained from the Registration Division.
